Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trek and Golden Monkeys Safari

Day 1: Pick Up, City Tour, and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On the first day, our representative greets you at the airport or another location you have requested. A brief city tour follows, with visits to the genocide memorial and local artisan shops. During this time, the guide shares information on Rwanda’s culture and history.
Lunch is offered based on your arrival time. After the city tour, travel to the area near Volcanoes National Park, arriving in approximately two and a half hours. Check in at your designated lodge or hotel to recover and get ready for the next morning’s trek. Dinner and an overnight stay follow.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park and Visit Ibyi’wacu Village

You are requested to rise at around 6 a.m., have breakfast, and be prepared for the trek. With your packed lunch, you meet the guide and drive to Kinigi Headquarters, where an orientation is held at 7 a.m.
During this session, guidelines are explained. The trek itself can last anywhere from two hours to half a day, depending on the gorillas’ location. After finding the gorillas, remain at least six meters away, and you get one hour to observe and take photographs.
When finished, return to the lodge for lunch and a chance to rest. If time permits, go to Ibyi’wacu Village for a cultural excursion. Dinner and an overnight stay are at the same hotel or lodge as before.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek and Visit Dian Fossey Centre at Karisoke

Once again, plan to wake up around 6 a.m., have breakfast, and be ready for your second gorilla trek, likely a different family group. Proceed with the briefing at Kinigi Headquarters starting at 7 a.m., then head out. As with the previous day, it can take between two hours to half a day to reach the gorillas, and you have one hour with them.
After concluding the trek, have your packed lunch, then visit the Dian Fossey Fund at Karisoke Centre. A short tour of the museum there offers a closer look at her conservation activities. Later, go back to your lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek

On this fourth day, breakfast is taken in the morning, and you proceed to the park headquarters for the golden monkey briefing. The trek itself can require three to six hours, after which you have an hour in the presence of the monkeys. Then you can return for your lunch. Dinner and overnight at the same lodge.

Day 5: Transfer Back to Kigali

On this last day of the 5 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trek and Golden Monkey Safari, enjoy breakfast at your leisure, but do check out on time. The guide will be standing by to drive you back to Kigali International Airport or whichever location you prefer in Kigali.
